Overview

This project aims to evaluate Japan's current population decline quantitatively from an urban economics perspective. It also seeks to provide specific guidelines for designing national and regional policies related to population dynamics, industrial structure, and transportation and living infrastructure. Additionally, in response to the intensification of individualism which is considered to be one of the fundamental causes of population decline, the study seeks to establish theoretical and empirical frameworks to quantitatively assess both the impact of legal reforms that aim to equalize labor conditions, and the implementation of labor hour restrictions as part of corporate compliance with SDGs. These changes may be contributing factors to widening economic and regional inequality, and the framework aims to provide new perspectives for policy design.
