Overview
In this research project, we will use microdata from government statistics and data from our original firm surveys to update our previous studies on the productivity of Japanese firms and address several new issues. We will examine not only the factors that boost productivity but also those that suppress it. Specifically, we will conduct an empirical analysis of changes in the organization and behavior of Japanese firms and their productivity, focusing on three areas: (1) labor shortages and the spread of automation and labor-saving technologies; (2) changes in the domestic macroeconomic environment; and (3) changes in the international economic environment and increasing uncertainty.
