Internet Survey on Work and Education and Training of Technical and Research Professionals

Purposes and Background of the Survey

In recent years, it has been pointed out in many places that Japan's R&D capabilities are declining. In addition, the supply and demand for R&D personnel is tightening worldwide, especially in industries that require advanced technology, and it is not easy to obtain excellent R&D personnel from overseas. Considering the current situation, it is an important issue for Japan to improve education and foster excellent R&D personnel.

However, there are concerns that the environment for fostering excellent R&D personnel has deteriorated in Japan due to the reduction in the number of class hours for science and mathematics subjects resulting from repeated changes in the curriculum guidelines.

With these issues in mind, we conducted a questionnaire survey of engineers and researchers regarding their current work styles, job performance, past training, and education in science and mathematics subjects, and analyzed the results for use in policy making.
