Overview

What kinds of policies are effective for improving firm productivity? In this project, we first consider the effectiveness of job-matching programs to support small firms in traditional industries facing labor shortages. We analyze the case of the traditional textile industry in Laos by using data from our field experiment and surveys. Second, we consider the study tour program organized by the Japan Productivity Institute for the purpose of improving productivity soon after WWII, which sent Japanese top-managers and labor representatives to observe US and European firms. In this project, we construct the micro-level database of firms and individuals involved in the study trip and examine the characteristics of the trip participants.
