Overview
The world is witnessing unprecedentedly dramatic structural changes, which include the COVID-19 pandemic, US-China rivalry, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and climate change. This project aims to analyze how Japanese firms and the government have responded to these structural changes and identify desirable strategies and policies. A study on Japanese firms reveals their responses to the structural changes in terms of production, employment, investment, trade and others, while a study on the Japanese government examines not only its internal but also external policies to deal with the structural changes. In particular, the role of the Japanese government in reforming the international economic system is explored.
