Help Americans to quit jobs in zombie companies

James Politi outlines the Trump administration's attempts to continue assisting airline workers after their benefits expire ("White House considers executive action to help airline employees," August 27).

Mamta Badkar and Andrew Edgecliffe-Johnson report that the World Economic Forum and other organisations are postponing or cancelling large gatherings in 2020 and 2021 ("WEF postpones Davos 2021 over coronavirus fears," August 27).

With travel collapsing, airlines need fewer workers going forward. Rather than subsidising employees to remain at zombie companies, the government should provide incentives for them to seek viable jobs.
