RIETI-JOGMEC-IDE-JETRO Symposium "Economic Analysis of Supply Chain Vulnerabilities"

Welcome to RIETI Report. This bi-weekly newsletter will keep you updated with the recent columns, event information and research results by RIETI fellows and other leading economists in Japan and around the world.

In this edition, we are featuring topics related to the current state of economic security. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan is convening the world's first event for intensive public-private dialogue on economic security, the Economic Security Global Forum Weeks, from October through December 2025. As part of this initiative, RIETI will host an international symposium titled "Economic Analysis of Supply Chain Vulnerabilities" on December 16. Please join us for this event, which will address issues that will be at the forefront of economic policy debates next year. For more details, please see below.

This symposium will examine supply chain vulnerabilities through quantitative analysis using a range of data sources. The sessions will feature discussions led by domestic and international experts from industry, government, and academia on the following themes: analysis of supply chain vulnerabilities using firm-level government statistics, transaction data, and customs records; structural analysis based on international input-output tables and trade data; scenario analysis focusing on East Asia; and the political economy of China.
