The Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI), an independent administrative agency, invites applications for a full-time researcher position with the following specific responsibilities:
- 1)conducting quantitative empirical analysis of the economy and industries, which serves as the foundation for policy formation by policymakers,
- 2)providing evidence and advice in the policy formation process, and
- 3)conducting empirical policy evaluation and analysis as described below.
- Job Description:

The successful applicant will undertake the following operations for the purpose of providing output based on academic evidence for the planning and drafting of policy by the government, including the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
- ①Introduce research and provide relevant advice to policy authorities, based on relevant domestic or foreign research, and engage in exchanges of opinions in the policy-making process.
- ②Undertake theoretical and empirical evaluation and analysis of policy effects.
- ③Undertake empirical analysis of the economy in relation to policy.
- ④Write and disseminate research papers.
*Research results (papers) related to these work responsibilities shall belong to the individual researchers.

Applicants must meet the following requirements.
- ①Ph.D. in applied economics (including any one of international trade theory, industrial organization, regional economics, public economics, public finance), econometrics, statistics or other similar fields at graduate schools in Japan or overseas (including doctoral candidates who are nearing completion of the Ph.D.). Or have research achievements (theses) and equivalents and have experience in survey research related to the economy, industry, trade or other similar fields at a university or research institution.
- ②Must have the skills to conduct econometric and empirical analyses of the economy, including the evaluation of policy effects. (In particular, we welcome candidates have experience in implementing general equilibrium and input-output models in macroeconomics and international economics, including building, estimating, and numerically computing general equilibrium and input-industry linkage models.)
- ③Have a strong interest in the current policies or historical policies implemented by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and similar institutions, particularly in industrial policy, trade policy, and policy evaluation.
- ④Applicants must have the ability to communicate in Japanese for business purposes. The ability to communicate academically in English is also preferred.
