Announcement of recruitment of Full-time Fellow (Policy Economist)

The Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI) invites applications for a full-time researcher position to provide evidence and advice, theoretical and empirical policy evaluation and analysis in the policy making process at policy authorities in relation to evidence-based policy making (EBPM) as promoted by the government as follows.

Job Description:

The following operations are for the purpose of providing academic evidence for policy planning and drafting by the government, including the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

  1. (1)Introduction and advice of relevant domestic and foreign studies to policy authorities, and exchange of opinions in the policy-making process.
  2. (2)Theoretical and empirical evaluation and analysis of policy effects
  3. (3)Writing and external dissemination of research papers.

*Research results (theses) related to these works shall belong to the individual researchers.

Position and Employment Period:

Full-time (with tenure: tenure-track)
Fixed-term labor contract (contract renewed annually)
After 5 years of continuous service, there is a conversion system to a permanent employment contract based on performance review. Please contact us for details.

Qualification Requirements:

Applicant must meet the following requirements

  1. (1)Ph.D. in applied economics (including any one of international economics, industrial organization, labor economics, urban economics, public economics, public finance), econometrics, statistics or other similar fields at graduate schools in Japan or overseas (including doctoral candidates who are nearing completion of the Ph.D). Or have research achievements (theses) and equivalents and have experience in survey research related to economy, industry, trade, energy, labor or other similar field at a university or research institution.
  2. (2)Have the necessary econometric analysis skills for work related to EBPM.
  3. (3)Have a strong interest in the actual policies of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and other similar institutions.
  4. (4)Applicants must have ability to communicate in Japanese and English
Condition:
Working hour:
7.5 hours a day.
(Discretionary labor system for professional work will be applied)
Salary:
6,300,000 yen~
Based on an annual salary system, it will be determined based on ability, experience and performance

Closed on Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, year-end and New Year holidays (December 29 to January 3), and the establishment anniversary of RIETI
Annual paid leave:

The status of measures to prevent passive smoking:
No smoking indoors but designated outdoor smoking area exists
