Announcement
Economic security is a critical buzzword today, but as Peter Drucker said, "If you can't measure it, you can't improve it." To prepare for crises, it is necessary to have indicators that assess the level of economic security for each country.
The Institute for Future Strategy (IFS) at Seoul National University has recently developed "Economic Security Indicators," introducing concepts based on trade data such as export and import volumes. These include “export power" and "import vulnerability." Countries with major exporting companies and products can inflict pain on others by restricting exports, while countries dependent on imports are vulnerable to economic intimidation by certain nations.
In this seminar, we are pleased to welcome Professor Kim Byung-Young, Founding Director of the IFS at Seoul National University, who will explain their "Economic Security Indicators" and discuss issues related to North Korea. In addition, the activities of the Korea-Japan Cooperation Task Force, which was established at IFS in 2023, will be introduced and we will discuss collaborative efforts between Korea and Japan towards achieving economic security.
