RIETI-CEPR Symposium

Migration and Labor Markets: The cases of Europe and Japan

Announcement

Amid ongoing demographic changes, advanced economies have increasingly relied on migration as a component of their labor supply. However, the question of how to support effective social and economic integration remains a key policy challenge. This symposium will examine recent developments in migration and their impacts on labor markets in countries such as Germany and Switzerland, which have been at the forefront of these trends. It will also explore the characteristics of foreign workers within the Japanese labor market. Drawing on recent research findings, the symposium will provide insights from the perspectives of labor markets, institutional design, and social integration, and will facilitate a multifaceted discussion on future policy directions related to migration and integration.
