RIETI-WINPEC-GSIS Symposium

Advanced Technology and Democracy-International Symposium “The Future of Electronic and Internet Voting in Japan”

Announcement

In 2020, a demonstration experiment studying internet voting in overseas elections was conducted in Japan, and a project to realize internet voting is currently underway in Tsukuba Super Science City. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, internet voting has drawn worldwide attention as a non-contact method of voting in political elections.
This symposium will discuss the future of electronic and internet voting in Japan, examining the project in Tsukuba City and the case of South Korea where internet voting is widely used for elections. Through the discussion with the participants, we hope to consider the possibilities and challenges for DX and its effect on democracy in Japan.
