RIETI-CEPR Symposium

Is Globalism at a Turning Point?

Announcement

Recent news implies that the world is more divided than at any point in recent history. The integration of global economies, or globalization, which has been the driving force behind recent global economic development, seems to be at stake, with Great Britain leaving the EU, The United States of America presenting itself as the Divided States of America, with populist parties gaining power in increasing numbers of countries, etc. Now that the WTO has essentially stopped functioning, what will happen to globalization in the future? How should Japan deal with the various challenges this raises?

At this symposium, experts from the financial and trade sectors will be invited from the top think tank in the UK, the Centre for Economic Policy and Research (CEPR), to discuss the current status and future prospects of globalism with RIETI researchers and Japanese trade policy officials.
