RIETI Open BBL Webinar

Italy in Turbulent Times. Connecting Atlantic, Mediterranean and Europe: Politics, economy and foreign policy

Announcement

After a long period of crisis and political instability, Italy appears to have regained its equilibrium. Since 2022, Giorgia Meloni's right-wing government has governed the country, bringing political and economic stability. The government has gained credibility at the European and international levels in recent years. Trump's second term is having severe repercussions on the transatrantic relationship with regard to plenty of issues ranging from trade to security and even fundamental values such as democracy. The European Union and its member states are struggling to work with Trump's United States. However, Meloni is considered a political ally of Trump, and her government is attempting to maintain a middle ground between the European Union and the United States, attempting to soften the American president's demands. It is crucial for anybody intending to work with Europe to understand the dynamics generated by Meloni's Italy in the EU politics.
