Bio

Prior to his current position, Atsushi Nakajima served as Senior Managing Executive Officer & Chief Economist, Mizuho Research Institute, Ltd. (2004-2011); Executive Officer, Chief Economist & General Manager of Research Division, Mizuho Corporate Bank, Ltd. & Executive Officer, Chief Economist of Mizuho Research Institute, Ltd. (2003-2004); Chief Economist of Mizuho Research Institute, Ltd. & Chief Economist & General Manager of Research Division, Mizuho Corporate Bank, Ltd. Bio

Richard Baldwin is Professor of International Economics at the Graduate Institute in Geneva since 1991 and Editor-in-Chief of VoxEU.org since he founded it in 2007. He was appointed as President of CEPR in July 2016. Previously, he was a part-time Visiting Research Professor at the University of Oxford (2012-2015), a Visiting Professor at MIT Economics Department (Fall 2002-2003), and an Associate Professor at Columbia University Business School (1989-1991, Assistant Professor 1986-1989). He has served as Managing Editor of Economic Policy (2000-2005), Policy Director of CEPR (2006-2014). Programme Director of CEPR's International Trade programme (1991-2001). Before moving to Switzerland in 1991, he was a Senior Staff Economist for the President's Council of Economic Advisors in the Bush White House (1990-1991) following trade matters such as the Uruguay Round and NAFTA negotiations as well as numerous US-Japan trade conflicts. He has been an adviser and consultant to many international organisations and governments.
He did his Ph.D. in economics at MIT with Paul Krugman and has published a half dozen articles with him. Before that he earned an M.Sc. at LSE (1980-81), and a B.A. at UW-Madison (1976-1980). The author of numerous books and articles, his research interests include international trade, globalisation, regionalism, and European integration.

Bio

Barbara Petrongolo is Professor of Economics at Queen Mary University, Director of the CEPR Labour Economics Programme and Research Associate at the Centre for Economic Performance of the London School of Economics. She has previously held positions at the London School of Economics, the Paris School of Economics and the University of Carlos III (Madrid). Her main area of interest is applied labour economics. She has worked extensively on the performance of labour markets with job search frictions, with applications to unemployment dynamics, welfare policy and interdependencies across local labour markets. She has also worked on the causes and characteristics of gender inequalities in labour market outcomes, in a historical perspective and across countries, with emphasis on the role of employment selection mechanisms, structural transformation, and interactions within the household.

Tarun RAMADORAI (Research Fellow, CEPR / Professor of Financial Economics, Imperial College London)

Bio

Tarun Ramadorai is Professor of Financial Economics at Imperial College London. He has a broad range of research interests in the areas of asset pricing, international finance, and household finance. He is greatly interested in finance and economics issues in emerging markets, with a particular focus on India. He has published on these topics in a number of scholarly journals in Finance and Economics. In addition to his academic work, he has taken on several advisory roles in the area of financial regulation and policy in both India and Europe.
He has a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Williams College, an M.Phil. in Economics from the University of Cambridge, and a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard University. Prior to his role at Imperial, he spent over a decade at the University of Oxford.

Koichi Akaishi joined the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (currently the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)) in 1985. He served as Director, Americas Division, Trade Policy Bureau, METI (2005); Executive Director, Brussels Office of Japan Machinery Center for Trade and Investment (2006); Director, Information Policy Division, Commerce and Information Policy Bureau, METI (2009); Director, Budget and Accounts Division, Minister's Secretariat, METI (2011); Deputy Director-General for Global Environmental Affairs, Minister's Secretariat, METI (2012); Deputy Director-General for Japan Economic Revitalization Bureau, Cabinet Secretariat (2013), Director-General for Trade Policy, Trade Policy Bureau, METI (2014).
He received his B.A. in the Faculty of Law from the University of Tokyo.

Bio

Kazuya Kobayashi is Managing Executive Officer, Head of Global Corporate Division, at Mizuho Bank, Ltd. Starting his career in 1985, he has spent 10 years in the New York Office and has a wealth of experience in the field of corporate business planning, covering both Japanese and non-Japanese companies. He served as General Manager of Acquisition Finance Division (2010-2012), Executive Officer and General Manager of Corporate Banking Division No. 13 (2012-2014), Managing Executive Officer and Head of Investment Banking Unit (2014-2015), Managing Executive Officer and Head of Investment Banking Unit and Transaction Banking Unit (2015-2016).
He graduated from the University of Tokyo with a B.A. in the Faculty of Economics.

Bio

Yasuo Tanabe is Senior Vice President and Executive Officer, Hitachi, Ltd. Before joining Hitachi, Ltd. in June 2010, he has served for the Japanese government for thirty-two years. Starting with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry in 1978, which reorganized as the Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry, he has covered wide range of policies such as trade, energy and environment. He has represented the Japanese government for many international organizations such as the International Energy Agency. He was Vice President of the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry from 2004 to 2006. During his tenure as Deputy Director-General for Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he had been Chief Negotiator / Deputy Chief Negotiator for many Economic Partnership Agreements with ASEAN countries, Switzerland and Peru. He has written a book "Asia Energy Partnership" and articles on energy and trade issues. He has a B.A.in Law from the University of Tokyo (1978) and an M.A. in International Relations from Stanford University (1985).

Bio

Ryuhei Wakasugi has been Professor, Graduate School of International Studies and Regional Development, University of Niigata Prefecture since 2015. He was formerly Professor, Gakushuin University; Professor, Institute of Economic Research, Kyoto University; Professor, Faculty of Economics, Keio University; Dean and Professor at Faculty of Economics, and Vice President, Yokohama National University. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Tokyo.
