概要
It’s said that the huge number of the young migrants to Tokyo, where the total fertility rate (TFR) is the lowest level, depress the Japanese TFR lower. This study shows (1) the married rate of high-educated men/women in Tokyo is not lower than the other areas despite the fact that a high number of the young migrants to Tokyo are highly educated, and (2) the effects of Tokyo’s TFR on the overall Japanese TFR level are limited, because the population of Tokyo is only ten percent of Japan’s total population. The results raise doubts about the initial remarks related to young migrants and the lowest TFR being in Tokyo.
