Dr. Jiro Kokuryo is a Professor at Keio University's Faculty of Policy Management as well as its Graduate School of Media and Governance. His research and teaching centers on the development of business and social models that maximize the benefits of information technologies. He is particularly active in studying effective uses of open systems. Prior to joining Keio University, Professor Kokuryo worked for NTT, where he promoted the use of information technologies for corporate users.
Dr. Kokuryo holds a B.A. in economics from the University of Tokyo (1982), and an MBA (1988) and DBA (1992) from Harvard Business School. He has received many awards for his academic work, including the Japan Society for Management Information's annual best paper award, and the Telecommunications Advancement Foundation's telecommunications social science award. He is also a member of the prime minister's IT Strategic Headquarters' advisory council and has been playing a central role in formulating Japan's IT policies. He also works closely with volunteer organizations and was commended by the Minister of Internal Affairs for his distinguished service to the development of regional societies.

Professor Cusumano specializes in strategy, product development, and entrepreneurship in the computer software industry, as well as in automobiles and consumer electronics. He teaches courses on strategic management, technological innovation and entrepreneurship, and the software business.
Professor Cusumano received a B.A. degree from Princeton in 1976 and a Ph.D. from Harvard in 1984. He is fluent in Japanese and has lived and worked in Japan for seven years. He has consulted for more than 50 major companies around the world, and has served as a director of private and public software companies and an advisor to numerous startup companies. He has also served as editor-in-chief and chairman of the MIT Sloan Management Review, and he writes periodically for the press.
Professer Cusumano has published eight books including The Business of Software: What Every Manager, Programmer, and Entrepreneur Must Know to Thrive and Survive in Good Times and Bad (2004), and Platform Leadership: How Intel, Microsoft, and Cisco Drive Industry Innovation (2002, with Annabelle Gawer)

Mr. Kushiki is the senior fellow of Panasonic Corporation in charge of standardization and business-academia collaboration in the R&D field. Previously, he was the managing director of Panasonic Corporation, board member in charge of digital network technology, and formerly president of Panasonic Mobile Communications Co., Ltd. He promoted the development and business of home appliances, DVD, SD, DTV, and related systems such as EPG and CAS for broadcasting stations. He also promoted the development of architecture, multi-media technologies, and CE-Linux software in conjunction with the above-mentioned applications and services.
Mr. Kushiki is serving on several committees established within the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), including the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee. He sits on the board of directors of Kansai Economic Federation, the board of directors of the Japanese Standards Association, and the advisory board of the ICT Standardization and Intellectual Property Promotion Center.

Dr. Marshall Phelps is responsible for setting the global intellectual property strategies and policies for Microsoft Corporation. In addition, he interfaces with governments, other companies in the technology industry, and outside institutions to broaden awareness of intellectual property issues. Before transitioning to his current position in 2006, he served as the deputy general counsel for intellectual property in Microsoft's Legal & Corporate Affairs group, where he supervised Microsoft's intellectual property groups. He oversaw the company's management of its intellectual property portfolio, which comprises some 13,000 patents issued and more than 12,000 trademark registrations worldwide.
Dr. Phelps joined Microsoft in June 2003 after a 28-year career at IBM Corp., where he served as vice president for intellectual property and licensing. He was instrumental in IBM's standards, telecommunications policy, industry relations, patent licensing program and intellectual property portfolio development. Also, he helped establish IBM's Asia Pacific headquarters in Tokyo and served as the company's director of government relations in Washington, D.C. Upon retiring from IBM in 2000, he spent two years as chairman and chief executive officer of Spencer Trask Intellectual Capital Company LLC, which specialized in spinoffs from major corporations such as Motorola Inc., Lockheed Martin Corp. and IBM.
Dr. Phelps holds a B.A. from Muskingum College, an M.S. from Stanford Graduate School of Business, and a J.D. from Cornell Law School. He is an Executive-in-Residence at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, and also serves on the Board of Visitors. He was elected to the inaugural class of the Intellectual Property Hall of Fame in 2006, and he has recently been asked to advise METI on IP matters.

Professor Van Alstyne received a B.A. from Yale, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from MIT. He is an associate professor at Boston University and a visiting professor at MIT. His work concerns information economics. In designing information goods, this research concerns competitive strategy and network effects. In control over information, it concerns who has access to what information, when, and at what price. Van Alstyne's work also balances open source principles against those that generate profits and stimulate innovation.
Professor Van Alstyne was among the first to document the productivity effects of IT and communications at the individual desktop level. His work has received an NSF career award, two best paper awards, and has appeared in Science, Management Science, Harvard Business Review, and the popular press.

Mr. Yutaka Kasahara is the vice president of the Software Business Promotion Unit at NEC Corporation. Since joining NEC in 1975, he has worked on research and development of societal systems, multimedia and human interface technologies and their applications. From the mid 90's, he has been engaged in software/content development and advanced solutions development. Mr. Kasahara received his M.E. in Electronic Engineering from Osaka University in 1975.

Dr. Jürgen Mössinger is the AutoSAR project leader and head of systems integration at Robert Bosch GmbH. Dr. Mossinger began his career at Bosch in 1995 working on the development of diesel systems. In later assignments, he headed the development of the ECU platform EDC17 and the ECU development for a customer group at diesel systems. During 2008, he served as a spokesperson for the AUTOSAR consortium. Dr. Mössinger received his Ph.D. in Physics from the Technical University of Stuttgart, and worked at the Max-Planck-Institute for Metals Research before joining Bosch.

His previous roles at NTT included president & CEO of NTT DATA Corp. (2003-07); senior executive vice president (2001-03); executive vice president and senior executive manager, of the Public Administration Systems Sector of NTT Data Communications Systems Corp. (1997-2001); senior vice president and senior executive manager, Corporate Strategy Planning Department (1996-1997); senior vice president and senior executive manager, Industrial Systems Division, Industrial Systems Sector (1990-96); and senior executive manager, Purchasing Department (1988-1990). Mr. Hamaguchi graduated from Kyoto University in 1967 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.

Mr. Marcos Bonturi is the head of the Structural Policy Division in the OECD Directorate for Science, Technology and Industry. In this capacity, he manages a team of experts working on issues related to Industry, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. He also manages the international negotiations on anti-subsidy agreements for the steel and shipbuilding sectors, and a major study on the economic impact of counterfeiting and piracy.
Mr. Bonturi began his career in 1985, at the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) in Washington D.C., helping Latin American countries assess issues related to GATT entry. He joined the OECD in 1990 and worked on trade and development issues, such as those related to structural adjustment and market access. In 1994, he began working as an economist in charge of preparing OECD country surveys of Brazil, Italy, Portugal and Mexico; specializing in issues of health, public spending, financial sector reform and pension reform.
In 2000, he transferred to the Office of the OECD Chief Economist, where he held the post of senior economist, and conducted research and authored studies for inclusion in the OECD Economic Outlook , including a major report on the economic consequences of terrorism that was published a few months after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. From 2002-2006, he worked in the Private Office of the Secretary-General, counseling senior management in the areas of industry, agriculture, and trade policies. In addition to his management responsibilities during this time, Mr. Bonturi helped organize ministerial conferences and managed several high priority projects on trade and structural adjustment, and the services economy.
Mr. Bonturi, who is Italian, is also fluent in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, and has some knowledge of Russian and Romanian.

Dr. Arnaud Le Hors is responsible for overseeing the management of IBM standards activities and leading the IBM open source and standards program in the emerging markets. He has been working on open standards for over 10 years, both as a staff member of standards development organizations (SDO) such as W3C, and as a representative for IBM. He has been involved in every aspect of the standards development process. This includes the technical, strategic, political, and legal aspects, both internal and external to an SDO and to a company like IBM. He was involved in the development of standards such as HTML and XML. He was also involved in open source projects and was one of the lead architects of Xerces, the XML parser developed by the Apache Software Foundation.
