  • ETOH Minoru (Professor, Open and Transdisciplinary Research Initiatives, Osaka University)
    After working on image coding standardization at Panasonic, he switched to NTT Docomo in 2000, where he initiated the development of mobile multimedia technologies for 3G and beyond, and data mining. He is the founder of the MP-4 file format. In the United States, he served as President of DOCOMO Innovations and DOCOMO Capital, and until July 2016, he also served as President of NTT Docomo Ventures, where he engaged in investment operations. He left his executive position at NTT Docomo in 2017 and became a professor at the Institute for Open and Transdisciplinary Research Initiatives at Osaka University. In October 2014, he founded Mirai Translation, a new venture in machine translation, and served as CEO and president (until June 2020).
    He is currently a professor at the Institute for Open and Transdisciplinary Research Initiatives at Osaka University, Director of AI Research for the CREST program under the Japan Science and Technology Agency, and a visiting professor at the Graduate School of Medicine, Juntendo University. He is interested in consulting and talent development to support the digital transformation of Japanese companies.
