AIZU Izumi

Principal, Asia Network Research
Executive Research Fellow, GLOCOM

Mr. Aizu co-founded the Institute for Networking
Design in Tokyo in 1986, a think-tank specializing in computer conferencing. In 1991, he joined the Center for Global Communications, International University of Japan. In 1997, he founded the Asia Network Research in Malaysia. In 2001, he participated in the G8 Digital Opportunity Task Force to help developing countries utilize the Internet.

CHEN Qingtai

Vice President, Development Research Center of the State Council of the PRC
Dean, School of Public Policy & Management, Tsinghua University

Dr. Chen graduated from Tsinghua University in 1964 specializing in power and dynamics engineering. From 1982 to 1992, he was chief engineer, president and chairman of China No.2 Automobile Works. From 1992 to 1993, he served as deputy director of Economics and Trade Office of the State Council. From 1993 to 1998, he served as vice minister of SETC.


CHIA Siow Yue

Director, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies
Director, Singapore APEC Study Centre Regional Coordinator, East Asian Development Network

Prof. Chia's research areas are international economics and development economics, particularly foreign direct investment, trade policy, and regional economic integration. She has authored, co-authored and edited more than 40 books and reports and published more than 100 papers and articles in academic books and journals. She serves as committee member and resource person on numerous international and regional organizations.

Peter DRYSDALE

Head, Australia-Japan Research Centre, Australian National University Professor, Economics in the Asia Pacific School of Economics and Management (APSEM)

Prof. Drysdale is responsible for a large research program on economic relations with Japan and the Asia Pacific based at the ANU and involving research cooperation with economists in Japan and other countries throughout the region.


FAN Gang

Director, National Economic Research Institute, China

Prof. Fan received his Ph.D. in economics from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and was visiting fellow at Harvard University during his Ph.D. program for 2 years. His main areas of research are macroeconomics and economics of transition. He currently is serving as adviser for the Chinese central government, local government and international organizations, such as World Bank and the IMF.

Francois GIPOULOUX

Senior Research Fellow, National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS)

After graduating from University of Paris 7 (1974) and Peking University (1974-77), Dr. Gipouloux served as deputy trade commissioner of the French Embassy in Beijing (1983-86) and as researcher of the Maison Franco-Japonaise in Tokyo (1990-94). Until recently, he was research director of the French Centre for Research on Contemporary China in Hong Kong (1997-2001). His current research focuses on the spatial effects of foreign direct investment in China and on the formation of a Mediterranean Sea in East Asia.

HU Angang

Director, Center for China Study of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor of School of Public Policy & management, Tsinghua University

Prof. Hu received his Ph.D. in engineering from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1988 and was a post-doctoral student at Yale University (1991-92). He was visiting professor at Keio University (2000).

JANG Hasung

Professor of Finance and Director of the Asian Institute of Corporate Governance, Korea University

Prof. Jang, as the chair of PEC-PSPD, shareholder activist NGO in Korea, has been at the forefront of corporate governance reform in Korea. He received his Ph.D. in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1987. He joined the faculty of Korea University in 1990, and he also taught at the Wharton School and the University of Houston between 1986 and 1990.

Jomo SUNDARAM

Professor, Applied Economics Department, Faculty of Economics and Administration, University of Malaya

Prof. Jomo is on the Board of the United Nations Research Institute on Social Development, Geneva, and founder of IDEAs, or International Development Economic Associates (www.networkideas.org). He has taught at Science University of Malaysia (USM), Harvard, Yale, National University of Malaysia (UKM), University of Malaya, and Cornell. He has authored over 30 monographs and edited over 40 books.

LEE Chang Jae

Director, Northeast Asia Research and Information Center, Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP)

Dr. Lee is chief Korean coordinator for the trilateral joint research project between China, Japan, and Korea. He received his Ph. D. from the University of Paris I (Pantheon-Sorbonne). He has published numerous articles and books on the topic of Northeast Asian economic cooperation.

LIN Yifu

Professor and Founding Director, China Centre for Economic Research (CCER) at Peking University
Professor of Economics, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Prof. Lin received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago in 1986. He was awarded the 1993 Sun Yefang Prize, the 1993 Policy Article Prize of Center for International Food and Agricultural Policy at the University of Minnesota, the 1997 Sir John Crawford Award of the Australian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society, the 1999 Best Article Prize of the Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, as well as other prizes. Justin Yifu Lin is member of the National Committee, China People's Political Consultation Conference.

LIU Guangxi

Dr. Liu is economist on international trade and economics, in particular Multilateral Trading System of the WTO. During the past 13 years, Dr. Liu, as a key member of the Chinese delegation for the negotiations of China's GATT/WTO membership, has fully attended the bilateral and multilateral trade talks of the Uruguay Round and the negotiations of China's GATT/WTO working party in Geneva.


Edward STEINFELD

Associate Professor of Political Science, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Prof. Steinfeld's research focuses on the political economy of industrial and financial restructuring in transitional systems, with a particular emphasis on China. His book on Chinese stake in enterprise restructuring Forging Reform in China was published by the Cambridge University Press in 1998.

Joseph STIGLITZ

Professor, Columbia University

Professor Stiglitz, former chief economist at the World Bank, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 2001. he has made seminal contributions to most sub-fields of economic theory - microeconomics, macroeconomics, industrial organization, international economics, labor economics, financial economics, and developemt economics.


Denis TERSEN

Minister Counsellor for Economic and Commercial Affairs, French Embassy in Tokyo

Before Mr. Tersen's current position, he was advisor for international affairs and international trade to the Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry-Minister's Cabinet in France.

WANG Yunjong

Senior Research Fellow, Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP)

Prof. Wang has served as a consultant to various international organizations including IMF, OECD, ADB and UN ECLAC. He has published many books and articles in various professional journals, mainly focusing on regional financial arrangements, new international financial architecture, and international finance.

WU Rong-I

President, Taiwan Institute of Economic Research

Dr. Wu serves as director-general of the Chinese Taipei Pacific Economic Cooperation Committee and Executive Director of Chinese Taipei Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Study Center. He was a member of the Eminent Persons Group of APEC from 1993 to 1995.

YU Yongding

Dr. Yu obtained his D.Phil. in economics at Nuffield College, the University of Oxford. His publication includes several books and many papers on various economic issues. His major research interests are macroeconomics and international finance. He has written many papers on the Japanese economy and regional economic cooperation.

ZHANG Yunling

Professor of International Economics, Director of Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, and Director of APEC Policy Research Center, Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS)

Prof. Zhang has served in numerous capacities including chairman of the Department of Asia-Pacific Studies, Graduate School, CASS; Guest professor of Peking University, People's University, Beijing Normal University, president, Chinese Association of Asia-Pacific Studies; member of the China Standing Committee for PECC, CSCAP and member of East Asia Vision Group, the Panel of Independent Advisors for APEC, and member of Official Expert Group on China-ASEAN Cooperation. He named national outstanding expert by the State Council of China in 1992.
