RIETI-KEIO Conference on Japanese Economy

Leading East Asia in the 21st Century?

Announcement

The Japanese Economy has been in one long recession since the 1990s. Whether this is due to cyclical macro economic fluctuations or structural factors, such as losing industrial competitiveness, has become a major policy issue. In addition, growing industrial competitiveness in other East Asian countries, i.e., China, Korea and Taiwan, is casting a shadow on Japan's leading position in East Asia in the 21st century. Based upon the results of RIETI's project International Comparison of Productivity among Pan Pacific Countries (ICPA), this conference will address the question of Japan's long term competitiveness in those East Asian countries experiencing dynamic economic development.
